What Is A Certified Bookkeeper?
In 1997 the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers established national standards for the Certified Bookkeeper program.

Candidates for this industry-wide level of recognition must document at least 3,000 hours of experience, and pass examinations in six crucial areas of bookkeeping, accounting and taxation:
  • Adjusting Journal Entries
  • Error Correction
  • Payroll
  • Inventory
  • Depreciation
  • Internal Controls and Fraud Prevention
Certified Bookkeepers must demonstrate a high level of knowledge and skill, and adhere to a stringent Code of Ethics. Continuing education is required to maintain certification.
